I’m currently reading How Google Works, by Google Executive Chairman and ex-CEO Eric Schmidt and former SVP of Products Jonathan Rosenberg. A recurring theme in the book is that of Smart Creatives, people who combine technical knowledge, business expertise and creativity.
Google’s advice for what to do with a smart creative, when you hire one (and hiring is the most important thing you will ever do, according to Schmidt and Rosenberg): Create an environment where they can thrive at scale. This means paying close attention to culture, working in small teams and giving them lots of freedom and clear communication.
