Accenture has released its Technology Vision 2018 report, titled Intelligent Enterprise Unleashed. The report details five trends that they predict will allow companies to take advantage of new technologies.

The five trends are as follows:

  • Citizen AI: By raising AI for responsibility, fairness, and transparency, businesses can create a collaborative, powerful new member of the workforce. They say that 81% of executives agree that within the next two years, AI will work next to humans in their organisations, as a co-worker, collaborator and trusted advisor.
  • Extended Reality: Immersive experiences are changing how we connect with people, information, and experiences. Technologies like virtual and augmented reality mean that the importance of place is disappearing. XR could be used for workforce training, day-to-day productivity, or immersive customer experiences.
  • Data Veracity: Businesses must adapt existing capabilities to combat a new kind of vulnerability: inaccurate, manipulated, and biased data that leads to corrupted business insights. Companies should be wary of the potential harm from bad data.
  • Frictionless Business: To fully power the external technology-based partnerships they depend on for growth, companies must phase out outdated systems in order to stay competitive.
  • Internet of Thinking: Enabling intelligence for the next generation of technology - robotics, immersive reality, artificial intelligence, and connected devices - demands an overhaul of existing infrastructures.

All of the trends call on leaders to shift their mindsets and business models to make the most of emerging technologies. The report is authored by Paul Daugherty, Accenture’s chief technology and innovation officer. Daugherty has an interesting book coming out in March, titled Human + Machine, in which he explores the future of work in an Artificial Intelligence assisted age.
