Leadership Line Up
A quick opener that maps the room's leadership experience.
15 minutes

Icebreaker

A short opening activity. Participants line up according to how long they have been leaders, from those just starting out to the most experienced. It gets people on their feet, surfaces the range of experience in the room, and sets a collaborative tone for the day.

Walk The Line
Warm up and surface views with a physical line-up.
15 minutes

Icebreaker

Participants are invited to form a line, arranging themselves according to a criteria we set. This can be a simple way of mixing up a group e.g. "Line up according to your birthday", or getting a picture of people's views e.g. "Stand towards one end if you are optimistic about the coming year, and the other end if you expect significant challenges."

Signal Safari
Gets the grey matter working before we kick off.

Exercise

Pre-work completed by participants in the week before the strategy workshop. Each person scans their usual sources for signals across six categories that mirror the Strategy Radar, then imagines future content from those same sources, and brings the collected signals into the opening session.

Mission Critical
Get everyone clear on the team's central goal.
60 minutes

Discussion

The team clarifies and discusses its mission. What is the ultimate criteria against which the team's success will be judged? What is the big picture strategic goal? Often this section starts with a presentation from the team leader, and we facilitate questions and subsequent discussions.

Make It So
Turn what you have learned into concrete actions.
30 minutes

Exercise

Borrowing a phrase from Star Trek captain Jean-Luc Picard, we discuss applying everything you've learned, assessing what it would take to "make it so". What feels natural? What will need some work? What will make the biggest impact? How will you stick to your plan?

Team To-Do List
Leave with clear actions the team owns.
30 minutes

Exercise

This simple activity gathers the various ideas, outputs and priorities from the session. You leave with clear, practical actions the team owns and commits to - not vague ideas or post-it notes.

Team Celebration
Celebrate every member of the team in style.
45 minutes

Exercise

A chance to celebrate each and every person on the team. We’ll agree a series of award categories (enough for one per person) and then agree which team member should be awarded each category.

In the SESSION

Time well spent, from start to finish.

I've been delivering open workshops for years. They're different beasts to in-person sessions, and I use a considered mix of technology and facilitation techniques to make them effective and engaging experiences. Here's what you can expect when you attend this one.

Is it right for you?

An honest read on fit.

A good fit if
  • You are planning a team away-day and want a proven structure
  • You are happy to facilitate it yourself
  • You want the day to produce owned actions
  • You lead or support a team of any size
Probably not for you if
  • You want James to facilitate the day for you
  • You want a fixed agenda you cannot adapt
  • You are looking for theory about facilitation
  • You are not able to act on the commitments the day produces

Common questions.

What's included in the toolkit?

Every tool in the kit, a facilitator playbook with a running order and timings, an editable slide deck, printable workbooks and canvases, and worked examples. Everything you need to run it yourself.

How is it delivered?

It is a digital download. The moment you buy, you get instant access to download everything, yours to keep.

Do I need facilitation experience to run it?

No. Every tool comes with step-by-step facilitator notes and timings, so you can run it with confidence even if you have never facilitated before.

Can I run it with my whole team or organisation?

Yes. Your licence is organisation-wide, so you can use it with any team, as many times as you like.

Can I edit and brand the materials?

Yes. The slides and worksheets are editable, so you can brand them and adapt them to your own context.

Can I get help running it?

Yes. You can add a coaching call with James to plan your session, or bring him in to facilitate it for you.

Need a hand?
